When Tradition Hits the Catwalk: High School Fashion Show Sparks Youthful Revolution!

Brace yourself! This fashion extravaganza is where youth and tradition collide in the most spectacular way! At Wilbur High School, style met heritage in honor of Native American Heritage Month. The Colville Confederated Tribes Youth Development Program teamed up with Wilbur-Creston School District to pull off a jaw-dropping fashion show on November 14th.

Youth Development Coordinator, Kamea Pino, set the stage with powerful words: "Today is a celebration and a reminder of who we are and where we hail from. We are here to celebrate our culture, our people, and the incredible power of expression."

Daring students, both tribal and non-tribal, from Wilbur-Creston and Lake Roosevelt High Schools strutted the runway with bold confidence. For many, it was their runway debut, sparking a thrilling mix of nerves and excitement! Nautika Brown from Lake Roosevelt High School spilled the tea, "It was nerve-racking, but wow, what an experience! Me and Kenzie, my sister, jumped in together. No backing out!"

For fellow student Lola Yazzie, a member of the Colville tribe, following Nautika was a relief. "Not being first was a lifesaver!" she laughed.

This fashion showdown ignited dreams for Wilbur-Creston’s Josephine Cleveland as well. With stars in her eyes, Josephine shared, "This show kickstarted my ambition to be both a fashion designer and a model. My future? It's just getting started!" Modeling an outfit designed by her aunt, Sylvia Peasley, Josephine showed the world what dreams are made of!

And you won't want to miss out on more highlights from this event. Check it out now in all its fashion-filled glory!
