Transform Your Style: Maui College's Fashion Tech Lab Unveils Jaw-Dropping Secrets!

Fashionistas, gear up for a mind-blowing revelation from the UH Maui College Fashion Tech Lab! You won’t believe your eyes when you discover what this lab transformation entails! 🎨✂️

Our tech-savvy lab is getting a stunning makeover, with everything from new sewing and serger machines to revamped cutting tables and ironing stations. And guess what? You can join in the fun with our Spring 2025 classes, featuring Knits and Fashion Illustration! But wait, there’s more! You can dive into an amazing non-credit world with courses in Surface Design, Crochet, and even Intro to Swimwear!

Who would've imagined that a sewing class could turn into an epic adventure? That’s exactly what happened for three of our fabulous Fashion Tech students when they jetted off to Japan! 🌏✈️ The trio—Brielle Pacli-Donato, Meghan Reny, and Aliza Clarke—joined a global fashion project and showcased their jaw-dropping upcycled kimono garments. Their designs screamed style and diversity, drawing inspiration from the beautiful Hawaiian landscape and cultural heritage.

Why stop at crafting when you can use those skills to revolutionize an old kimono? The creative flair of Meghan Reny’s “Hōkū Moon and Her Waters” will leave you speechless, using opal beads and kimono fabric to create a mesmerizing blend inspired by the moon and waters of Hawai’i. Aliza Clarke’s piece celebrates the sacred Haleakalā, bringing geological wonders to life through her striped red kimono fabric that vividly symbolizes layered lava terrain. And can we talk about Brielle’s sugarcane-inspired “Wai Ko,” featuring furisode and organza that beautifully mimic Maui’s lush pinks and the swirling waters of irrigation fields?

This isn’t just a story about fashion—it’s a tale of dreams coming true! 🌟 From sipping tea in traditional ceremonies to unraveling the art of indigo dyeing, these students dived into an enriched cultural experience in Japan that can only be described as... profound!

Instructor Maria Razzauti knows this feeling all too well, having been in the students' shoes seven years ago. She describes the experience as a "once-in-a-lifetime opportunity" that she proudly helped materialize for her students, making it an eternal triumph!
