At first glance, it might seem like just another photo shoot—models are posing effortlessly while cameras flash. But hold onto your hats because in a small clothing store in San Jose, something absolutely game-changing is happening!
"The fashion buzz in the Native American community is undeniable right now," shared art director Tiffani Lopez.
Lopez, a proud Chiricahua Apache and Yaqui, is a seasoned pro in the fashion scene. But today, she's collaborating with Tochtli Wear, a groundbreaking label that's turning Native-American fashion into the talk of the town!
"It's fresh, modern, and oh-so-representative. We love our hoodies and sweaters but keeping our indigeneity and iconography alive is key," she explained.
For ages, Native designs were overlooked, seen more as costumes than couture. But trailblazers like Tochtli? They're flipping the script, creating killer clothes with a powerful message.
Founder Mitlalpilli Gonzales, with roots in the Aztec community, notes how native art, food, and fashion have taken a front seat lately. Why, you ask? The crave for authenticity and the social media stir!
So much so, that he’s just launched his first brick-and-mortar store in San Jose.
"I see it as part of a bigger movement. People are reconnecting with their roots and owning their identity," he stated.
And for Lopez, capturing these vibrant stories behind the lens is her passion, shining a spotlight on her community like never before.
"Collaborating with people who mirror my heritage and truly get the culture? It's soul-filling and feels just like home," Lopez expressed with a smile.
