Auburn's Sustainable Fashion Bash: How Popcorn and Thrift Became the Trendiest Duo of 2023!

Auburn University just rocked the boat on fashion and sustainability with a jaw-dropping outdoor film bash! On Nov. 14, Pebble Hill was THE place to be as the Office of Sustainability, Thrift Club, and Apparel Merchandising and Design Association teamed up to present “Fashion Reimagined.” Picture a young designer going all out to create a sustainable and ethical fashion line – got your attention yet?
Why is everyone buzzing? This shindig wasn’t just about popcorn and hot chocolate (though, YES, they had those too!). It was about nudging students to think green, stylishly so! Emily Moore, a junior environmental science whiz, spilled the beans: “Sustainable fashion is a simple way for many people to get into sustainability. We all can make it happen, daily!”
Jennifer Morse, the go-to person in sustainability communications, emphasized, “Our films aim to inspire and connect. We handpick flicks showing human-nature bonds, dropping only the best ones!”
With free goodies and booths featuring sustainable fashion tips, this event was a smorgasbord of eco-friendly enthusiasm. Ellis Thompson, who’s all about the fashion game, chimed in: “Sustainability isn’t rocket science, folks. Upcycle, mend, thrift – that’s all there is to it!”
Want a story twist? There was a killer contest for the best sustainable outfit, with fab prizes including a Taco Mama gift card. But it wasn’t just about looks. As Yarianna Rangel explained, “We're after secondhand clothes with stories that scream authentic and thrifty!”
The event turned heads and inspired everyone to rethink the impact of everyday choices. Leandro Cogles, a newcomer to the event, realized, “Little decisions contribute to bigger challenges; this was a revelation!”
